Chevening Scholarship Timeline (Global Guide)

The Chevening Scholarship is a prestigious fully funded UK government scholarship that allows future leaders from around the world to pursue a one-year master’s degree in the United Kingdom. It is funded by the UK Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office and is open to applicants from over 160 countries.

Below is the standard global application timeline used each year.

1. Applications Open (Early August)

The application portal opens in early August. Applicants can register, select courses, and begin filling out their forms.


2. Application Deadline (Early October)

By early October, all applications must be fully submitted. No extensions are provided.

At this stage, applicants submit:

  • Academic history
  • Work experience details
  • Leadership and networking essays
  • Course choices (3 UK master’s programs)

3. Eligibility Screening (October – November)

Applications are checked for basic eligibility, including:

  • Undergraduate degree qualification
  • Minimum required work experience (typically 2 years equivalent)
  • Citizenship of an eligible country

4. Application Assessment (November – January)

Applications are scored in detail based on four main areas:

  • Leadership and influence

9. Pre-Departure & Travel (August – October)

Successful scholars complete visa processes, attend orientation sessions, and travel to the UK to begin studies in September or October.
